Speaker 1: Okay, so we're talking today about breeds of rabbits and we have here just to show you different breeds. A few, this one is called a Jersey Wally, this one is a Rex the grey one, this one is a Flemish Giant, this one is a New Zealand White and we have here a little buddy called a Lion Head and next to him is a Netherlands Dwarf. We actually DE-emphasize breeds when people are adopting bunnies we always tell them no matter how beautiful the rabbit, no matter how much you love the breed, the thing to pay attention to really is the personality. And I told Amy once that is kind of like when you are dating a guy that is just really gorgeous and you find out that the personality isn't there, you don't care about the looks after a while it is very, very interesting. I had somebody come into my apartment one time to adopt only a Lap rabbit. The Lap rabbits are the ones that have the down ears. We don't have a Lap rabbit here but they have the ears that go down like a Cocker Spaniels and this lady came in and she said she only wanted consider a Lap and I had a couple of Laps and she loved one of them and started righting the adoption papers to take him home. But every time she went by this other rabbits cage the rabbit would stick his head out and look at her and try to make eye contact with her and after a couple of minutes she said you know Mary I think this rabbits trying to tell me something . So I said I think he is too , why don't you put down the Lap ear rabbit and go over and talk to that rabbit. And long story short she did and ended up adopting that second rabbit and the rabbit was definitely reaching out to her. It wasn't a breed she was interested in but the personality was so out going and so affectionate and she just loved him to pieces. So, we always tell people look at the different breeds for sure, we get all breeds into shelters all the time but go by the personality. It is much more
Speaker 2: But normally you wouldn't put a bunch of rabbits together like this because they always don't get along, right?
Speaker 1: Thanks for saying that, this is a challenge to have all these rabbits together on the same table . We have male, male, next to each other female, female next to each other that's not an easy thing to do in the rabbit world. Were really careful about putting rabbits together and we're just doing this to give an idea of different breeds. We want to make sure that we stay safe here.
Speaker 2: Wow.
Speaker 1: We are keeping the rabbits from each other for that reason.
Speaker 2: Look at all the different coats.
Speaker 1: Look at all the hair flying in the air from all these different coats.
Speaker 2: Rabbit breeds.
there's 2 Lion Heads the only difference was that 1s a fuzzy hair & the far left 1 she called a Wolly Jersey khowing that there crossover breeds of 2 differant Sadins, (1 of them being a Sadin Angora) and on the far right corners a baby Hotot why she called it a Netherland Dwarf??? just what the objective of this videos about is each breed come with there own personality its just like if us people are in school we all used to be 1 of the cool kids until after a while then start losing our popularity gone an others lose interest in fact ive had 2 Lion Head boys 1 was 2 months old the other was 7-8 months old R.I.P😢😢😢 anyways now I have a male Mini- Rex/Holland he's 4-5 months old, I've had him 3 months; there was a 2 month old fuzzy hair Lop bunny ive wanted from Whiteys Petshop for my rabbits companion like ive done for my Lion heads but the fool i have to put up with wouldnt let me.!
Omg i remember our first bunny was like in her story
My first bunny just stuck his head out to us and wanted to get in contact with us desperatly and we took him and it was the best years i ever had. He would always hop on us and just sleep on our chest. Even when i had already gone to sleep, he would hop on my hips (when laying sideways) and nap there instead. We always called these the "mountain climber challenges"
He even put his paws on my moms feet once when she was loving them around a lot as to tell her 'stahp' and just waited until her feet stopped moving to take a nap between her feet. He was so loving
I love your HowCast Series!. It completely saved my ignorance of rabbits since rescuing a little dwarf rabbit abandoned in my neighborhood. Such a sweet intelligent little survivor. I'm so grateful it chose me to be it's protector. In any case, I know these videos are older but if you're checking your messages please do more videos with dwarf bunnies. I noticed you have one in this video but it's so well behaved you forgot all about him all the way there on the far corner
i've been caring for an injured hare for a while and she'll be ready to be released in around two weeks. I've been thinking that when she goes back to nature i would really like to have a domesticated rabbit as a pet and my mother has bigger rabbits on her farm, like flemish giants as well as french lops etc.. the only problem is that i'm allergic to them. Is there a breed of rabbit that could possibly suit me even if i'm allergic to ''ordinary'' rabbit hair.
We have a mini rex. She's curious and we also have a highland flop. She was the first one to start eating out of my hand, but now the mini rex will eat out of my hand too. They like raisins and blueberries. These two make me gush over them all the time. It was a good decision to get these bunnies. Plus, they don't bark and wake me up at daybreak.
