Millions of workers report to a moron. Here’s how to deal if you’re one of them… A worker, that is. Reporting to a moron.
Step 1: Keep cool
Keep your emotions in check. No matter how your boss infuriates you, it’s never to your advantage to lose your temper or you might end up looking like the problem.
Step 2: Analyze your plight
Analyze your situation. Is your boss truly incompetent—or just unknowledgeable about your area of expertise? If it’s the latter, diplomatically educate him.
Step 3: Keep things separate
Keep your work separate from his mistakes by making copies of everything you do—especially if he’s trying to blame his bad work on you, or claiming your good ideas as his own.
Email is a great way to document your work—and you can CC your coworkers, if appropriate.
Step 4: Have witnesses
Try to have witnesses when you’re interacting with the boss, especially when you’re presenting ideas.
Step 5: Inform a supervisor
If your boss’ incompetence is affecting your work—and, more importantly, the company’s bottom line—inform his superior.
Going over your boss’ head can be dangerous—keep a journal of his buffoonery and collect any documented evidence to back up your claims.
Step 6: Look elsewhere
If the situation doesn’t improve, request a transfer or find a new job—don’t sacrifice your self-esteem or reputation because of someone else’s idiocy.
Did You Know?
According to a British poll, a whopping 70.8% of workers think their boss is incompetent.
My boss broke a verbal contract regarding my pay rate. I have evidence, I've texted him about it and he didn't say I was lying, he apologized claiming he can't help it due to getting my pay rate established by HIS boss (he subcontracts). The problem: no contractor I've ever met APPROVES a subcontractors employee's pay rates, he's getting $30 dollars per head. Period... I have pictures of an invoice where he was charging that amount.
I don't check my replies on here often... that being said if anybody has a solution or proposal for me I'd appreciate it. Please understand I already have several solutions, I just want other input. I don't want to take him to court over $2 an hour and I don't wanna seem greedy if I go over his head. That being said: I quit a higher paying job because I saw more potential. I was SUPPOSED to be getting $17 rate, he's claiming he can only give me $15. I live in NC... that's decent money here for labor. I'm more than just a laborer, I've had my own business, I've been partners with my father making AVERAGE $55 an hour at 17 years old, 20 years ago... I know literally everything about my job. Literally. From demolition to rebuilding houses. Finishes, all of it...
"Get everything in email" - I had to "train" my boss to respond to my emails with emails. Use to be I'd send him an email and he would respond by phone. So frustrating because (a) he would always tell me 50,000 things and expect me to remember it all and (b) I wouldn't have a written record of what he said. I finally just straight up told him I need him to respond to my emails with emails because I cannot remember the 50,000 things he, and the rest of the staff, tells me. Of course, now that he sends me emails he calls me and repeats EXACTLY what is in the emails! Almost word for word. Nothing new. Not time sensitive stuff. Now I wait to send him emails just before I go to lunch or leave for the day so he can't call me and dictate his email to me.
guys do i have to become managers/ director executive if i want to have more income??? i just want a job with a good amount of income (not very high) and a new challenging task, i dont really want to become managers one day... i know it may sound weird but i really like being simple
As an English IT developer the problem I have seen is that people who are incompetent, in a technical field, gravitate more towards softer roles and end up becoming managers or directors.
The result is that business leaders can be those who are incompetent and those under them spend much of their time steering the business away from the disasters their leaders keep leading them towards.
The problem is a human and social problem - those who want to be 'leaders' are frequently those least capable of taking on that role.
Look at the big picture. Incompetent boss = incompetent company. If you are a "competent" employee with "direct marketable skills". (like, acct, tech, mgr, engr,...etc.) You need to find a competent company. Assuming you haven't already been "brainwashed" to have a Parental Complex with your boss and company. Boss = parents...so got no choice. If you can break out and understand you can "trade up" your parents from abusive to nice you have a chance. INCOMPETENT COMPANY = shut down.
If ur boss fires u shit on his windsheild and rub it in with the wippers and break the off and make shure it dries up or not if its covering the windsheild or put a really big balloon or condom on his gas pipe and make it break when he drives off
One of the conditions to be a boss is: are you idiot?
My former boss was so idiot not knowing even how to send an email with attachment, she was the boss of more than 50 engineers, and her job was to give them a hard time.
Later on somebody told me that she is the girlfriend of the big boss.
If you've gotten to the point where you have to keep a CYA folder, you should just leave your job at that point. If your boss is making you the scapegoat, then defending yourself will produce a downward spiral where you spend more time defending yourself than doing your job until they decide there is good enough cause to dump you. The power disadvantage against a boss means you will not win, even if you bring his mistakes to his superiors on a silver plater, after all, you're just disgruntled.
So ultimately mamma gets possed because I grassed on his incompetence and laziness and in short terms boss won't listen to manger or sack me because we go to the same VIP club.
But boss won't sack manger even though his not in our lodge or any lodge he's worked for him 5 years and just got more and more lazy.
As an unbiased source, I'd say that you should probably stay out of your boss's personal business. If he is MAKING you be a part of it, that is harassment. You need to confront him and tell him that these things make you uncomfortable or bring it up with his superiors. Otherwise, if he's cheating on his wife, etc etc, that's really his business, no offense.
