Paxil is used for treating depression or obsessive-compulsive disorder (OCD). It may be used to treat panic disorder or posttraumatic stress disorder (PTSD). It may also be used to treat generalized anxiety disorder or social anxiety disorder. It may also be used for other conditions as determined by your doctor.
paxil has a half-life of ~24 hours in adults without liver issues (in contrast, the ssri drug prosac's half-life is ~5 days to a week).
unlike the other ssri's, the metabolite (the molecule produced when paxil passes through the liver and goes out again into the bloodstream) of paxil is inert-it has no medical effect.
it's sometimes given as a nigh-time dose, though the package insert says once a day in the a.m. for most indications.
if taken daytime in the a.m. a ~20 mg or higher dose most people will feel drowsy the first ~8 hours.
even if taken regularly for months or years.
when taken night-time most (but not all) people can take advantage of the sleepiness to sleep.
the last 2/3rd's of the drug's life produce more activation (the patient's less sedated and more prone to want to do stuff), with significantly less (maybe no) daytime sleepiness.
for many people, the best result may come from a night-time (bedtime) dosing.
emphasis due here: always talk with the Rx doctor first about changing your schedule on taking it.
unlike some advise on the web to 'skip a day' on ssri's for better (male) sexual functioning, it's not good advise when taking paxil due to the drug's relatively short half-life.
when you skip a day you may feel light-headed and 'washed-out' towards the end.
that's my experience on the drug, added in with what i've researched on it.
let me tell you this i have been using this for yearss and what you do want to know is that paroxetine is a bad drugg because your weight rises in the air with only weeks you cant have good sex and your feeling are so down
for me its the baddast medication on earth
I've been on it nearly a month. I just want to sleep. I feel apathetic and drowsy all the time. And it's VERY difficult to orgasm. My sex drive has dropped. I have no motivation. I'm not upset or feeling especially depressed (except for the apathy, as that is a symptom of depression). So far, I hate it.
I've been taking Paxil 20mg for about 3 days now and I feel much more in control of my emotions, less sensitive to what others have to say and my anxiety or the feeling of impending doom has now turned into another feeling that is difficult to describe.
The side effects ? Intense hyper sensitivity, increased sweating, left leg and left hand spasms, difficulty sleeping, constipation, feeling cold all the time, sensitive to light, nicotine and caffeine feel dramatically different, almost like a Andrenaline Rush. I can also I guess feel my lungs.
But who cares about that, I finally feel normal.
I don't feel angry anymore or sad or happy I feel neutral.
sunnycloud69 I just started on mine. I woke up in a good mood. We have clutter in every room in our house and I have to organize and that is hard for me to do. I normally throw stuff in the floor and yall at it. then I will organize it the way I want it. If something gets put in the wrong spot I get mad.
