So puppies crying at night is a complaint I hear a lot. It boils down to puppies being just young and energetic and not having an outlet for it. Especially before they have had all their vaccines and can go outside and play with dogs and explore their environment, they have a tendency to get really kind of antsy, and they'll go to sleep. They sleep half the day if you're at work. Then you come home. They play with you for a few hours, and then you expect them to go back to sleep and sleep through the night. It's very difficult for them. Making sure that they have a lot of stimulation throughout the day and a lot of exercise before bed.
There are ways to exercise your dog even if you can't leave the house, if the puppy's too young to go outside. Find activities. If you teach them to come when called, then you can practice back and forth through the house with other family members so the dog is running from the living room to the bedroom and back. You can also do training circuits with the dog, where it's come, sit, stay, down, stay. Obviously this requires some basic training, but it's a great way to stimulate the dog's brain mentally and also get the dog moving and physically active. Replacing all meals, instead of giving the dog it's meals out of a dog dish, a traditional dog food bowl, I would give it frozen inside hollow bleached bones or Kongs or other stuff-able teething toys that they sell for dogs, things like Kongs, hollow bones, and the like. Now things like that are going to keep the dogs mentally and physically active even at times that they would normally be sleeping, like these guys.
But if you are expecting the dog to sleep through the night, you have to make sure that you're giving the dog plenty of stimulation and activity. The dog should be comfortable in the bed and its crate. And sometimes covering the crate up so that it minimizes noise and light so that the dog has a little den will sometimes help the dog to sleep through the night a little bit more soundly. Also, if you're dog's getting up in the middle of the night to use the bathroom, you might want to limit water before bed. You could talk to your vet. Certain breeds have different requirements, but for the most part if the dog is loaded full of water and then you're putting a dog with a full bladder or a full bowel in bed, it's going to wake up in the night to use the bathroom. So be sure that you have the dog going to sleep with an empty bladder, who's tired and fulfilled from its busy day. And that would be some advice on how to keep your puppy from crying at night.
It’s currently 3:14am and my puppy won’t shut up, I’m going on 60 hours without sleep because I can’t stand the racket, it’s like a fire alarm going off. Everytime someone isn’t in the room with him he screams, but he isn’t toilet trained yet either so he’s not allowed upstairs
Mine whins and I am just like.. If I let her out she will poop :_: ... * let's her out * her get the water * she drinks it * OK now come on chubby one back in the cage * lays in bed * she starts whining * ..... What I am gonna do.. * few minutes later * she stops * phew now I can sleep or just watch YT all night
I'm doing this at night. My puppy doesn't let me SLEEP! Today's Midnight I had wake at 3 am cause of its CRYING and take him if outside with me so he go do his thing. Then he wanted to play im like heeeellllppppp me
My dog has never been one for whining a night...but all of a sudden he has started out of nowhere. I let him out make sure he isn't hungry or thirsty but he still whines. It's really confusing me as this is new behaviour and he is not a puppy. I can't think what could be causing this behaviour. Now I think about it the last 2 days he has been acting funny during the day aswell.
I took my puppy from a dog foster home about a year ago. I love him to bits; he has a great personality, and I feel that he loves our family so much. BUT he barks and whines A LOT. . So, leaving home is always a challenge for us.
My husband and I were thinking about taking him to 'doggy school', but then again, it’s extremely expensive, and the nearest 'doggy school' is far away from us. Maybe you have some advice? THANK YOU!!!!

I woke up 4 times during the night by a winning puppy, each time my little back pug puppy fell asleep in my arms.
Would be cute if the second I put her to bed she didn't start SCREECHING!
(Thx for the vid tho, hopefully this'll make her so tired she won't wake up as much at least)
I got my daughter a puppy and he will cry at night, I can't ever get him to stop but she can just hold him and bounce him and rock him to sleep in her arms like a baby, and he usually won't wake up for the rest of the night.
Not certain about the points made but ,if anyone else wants to discover training your puppy try Panlarko Perfect Canine Planner (do a search on google ) ? Ive heard some amazing things about it and my cousin got cool results with it.
The simplest way to stop them crying is to ignore them. Once you put them to sleep don't go in till the morning, especially for the first week you have a puppy. We recently got a Goldendoodle and it only cried the first two night for about and hour each time, and was the same when we had a Staffy.
Some puppies aren't really "afraid" of the dark.. they most likely are freaked out that there is nothing there and that they are alone and little pups will feel scared cuz of that but not necessarily the DARk. I always have a little night light as a mean of "comfort" .
My morkie poo Comes home Monday. I went to visit her and she cried already. How should I keep my new baby happy? She was just born in April so her shots are not all done yet which means she will spend time inside while I'm out and even when I'm home
My puppy's first time in his crate (today) was really easy, we played with him for about 3 hours and he was really tired, them we put toys and treats and a towel in the crate and he cautiously climbed in and when he looked comfortable we slowly closed the door, he cried for about 30 seconds and then just went to sleep. It's a our first night and he keeps crying for a few seconds and then takes a break for a while. It's not bad at all. Our breeder socialized her puppies really well so he's good with people and all animals (except for Guinea pigs....) and he is taking his crate extremely well

Charley Dodsworth Im 9 but I think ur puppy wants to pee or poo outside but if that's not the reason then carry ur puppy in ur arms and rock him/her to sleep
Edit: Or put on some relaxing music for puppies from youtube!
I have a dachshund puppy. At night, he always whimpers and I have to get him and place him on my bed so that he will sleep. So I kept on doing that and he cannot sleep on his own even outside my bedroom. I cannot move him because he would just growl at me or bark. It has been very hard.
That's sad that people like you own dogs. Dogs don't come knowing not to bark. No one should own dogs if they don't even know how to care for it. Please make sure the dog goes to a GOOD shelter if you do plan on giving it up. It deserves better than your family.
i just let mine sleep at the end of the bed. seems pointless to have a dog in a crate alone when im upstairs in a comfy bed. shes 4 yrs old now and is fine alone. aslong as she sees you leave the house and doesnt think you might be in another room shes fine.
+Rick Grimes Dirty On Dat Ass what i did worked so im not to fussed how anyone else does it. I never used puppy pads or crate training. Cant even remember the last time my dog did a pee or poo in the house. After a while you learn your dogs behaviour and when they generally goto the toilet.
I wish i had seen these videos before the puppies we have gotten. Our first was so loud (9 years ago), and then our sister puppies (three years ago) were even worse! It was horrifying and we just let them be because we didn't know what to do. Now that we are adopting another soon, i thankfully have more tips added to what i've learned over the years :)
