US regulator Food and Drug Administration is expected to decide on Tuesday whether to approve a drug nicknamed the female Viagra. The drug is a non-hormonal agent that acts on neurotransmitters in the brain, and aims to treat a condition known as hypoactive sexual desire disorder, or loss of interest in sex, among women who have not yet entered menopause.

Urdu/Eng/Nat Doctors in Pakistan are warning of the dangers of men buying the impotence pill Viagra on the black market and taking it without prescription. The sale of the drug in the country is currently being debated by the government - it says it wants to make sure the drug will be made available in the safest possible way. But medical experts say the problem of impotency is high in the country and that men are anxious to try out supplies of Viagra introduced illegally at a high price. Viagra, the impotency pill, is proving to be big business in Pakistan. The drug, first released in the U-S in March 1998, is legally available in more than 50 countries worldwide. Many people consider it the beginning of a new revolution in pharmaceuticals. In Pakistan, the government is currently discussing when and how to introduce the drug. But Viagra has already found its way onto the black market in the country's capital Islamabad and can be bought at a high price. One tablet can cost anything from 20 to 50 U-S dollars - a bottle of Viagra tablets can cost anything from 360 to 800 U-S dollars. Some Viagra users say the drug has been freely available to them for some time now and that they're prepared to pay up. SOUNDBITE: (Urdu) "Viagra is a sex drug and I have been using it for about two years and found it very good, because it adds energy to the body if we use it two hours before sexual intercourse. I have found no other medicine better than Viagra and the demand for it is now growing." SUPER CAPTION: Abdul Qadir, Viagra user The country's health department has so far been reluctant to legalise Viagra - but it is aware of the black market problem and is prosecuting anyone found selling the drug. Government officials say they want to make sure that there are no loopholes before Viagra is legally available in Pakistan. SOUNDBITE: (English) "In the West they know that this drug has got side effects and that it is a prescription drug. So nobody can buy it without prescription, while in Pakistan we still have some loopholes, some weaknesses where the drug can be sold over the counter and this is my main worry in resisting to register it." SUPER CAPTION: Professor Ghayyur H. Ayub, Director General of Health Ministry There have been worries that Viagra may have side effects. But Pfizer, the company that produces Viagra, maintains the drug is a safe medicine for erectile dysfunction when used as recommended in the approved package insert. There are already many legal drugs on sale in Pakistan to help enhance sex. Herbal doctors offer remedies for impotency, claiming they're natural products that have no side effects. The herbal remedy sellers can often be found on roadsides doing a roaring trade - but even they now say that the new wonder drug is threatening their trade. Medical experts say there is no official impotency figure in the country because Pakistani men are reluctant to admit they have a problem in a nation where sex is a taboo subject. But doctors say it is an ever increasing problem and they are warning of the dangers of taking the impotence pill without prescription. Doctor Khalid Saeed said it is even more of a worry as impotency affects men of all ages. SOUNDBITE: (English) "There are two basic main groups in which we can find this who come to us commonly. One is the younger age group - they are really people in their early 20s and the other group is somewhere in the late 40s and 50s and both of them have different presentations. People in the younger age group generally come to you just before they are about to get married." SUPER CAPTION: Dr Khalid Saeed, Consultant Psychiatrist at the Institute of Psychiatry, Rawalpindi In the meantime, they are encouraging people to seek alternative remedies. WASHINGTON — While herbal viagra claims to be purely herbal, ingredients vary per brand and are often unlisted. The FDA has warned against using these herbal supplements, as they are not subject to the same standards as prescription drugs. According to the Mayo Clinic, viagra is a prescription medication that uses Sildenafil to stimulate an erection by increasing blood flow to the penis. Herbal or natural alternatives to viagra purportedly do the same, but often have unlisted ingredients. The British National Health Service warns that some brands, such as 'Jia Yi Jian', include prescription-only drugs Taladafil, used for erectile dysfunction, and Sibutramine, which is used to treat obesity. This brand of herbal viagra uses double the maximum dosage of Taladafil and four times the allowed amount of Sibutramine. The danger in using herbal viagra is that unlike regular viagra, the increase in blood flow applies to other body parts as well, not just the penis. This can lead to a rapid drop in blood pressure, even restricting blood flow to vital organs, especially when taken with heart disease medication, anti-depressants, or alcohol, reports the Los Angeles Times. Compared to viagra, which sells for more than $40 for one pill, a 30-capsule bottle of herbal viagra costs much less. Herbal viagra can also be bought without a prescription, either over the counter or online. ------------------------------------------------------------- Welcome to TomoNews, where we animate the most entertaining news on the internets. Washington- The Food and Drug Administration has approved a libido-enhancing pill for premenopausal women whose lack of sexual desire causes distress, Reuters reported. Despite being dubbed the female viagra, unlike Viagra, which affects blood flow to the genitals, Flibanserin, works on the brain. According to Sprout Pharmaceuticals, the privately held startup that designed the drug, Flibanserin focuses on the brain's prefrontal cortex and enables sexual desire to manifest by rebalancing neurotransmitters that influence it. Specifically, flibanserin increases dopamine and norepinephrine, responsible for sexual excitement, and decreases serotonin, which is responsible for sexual satiety and inhibition. This is likely achieved by a reduction of glutamate transmission. Women who took the drug in a clinical study have shown an increase of about 1.0 more sexually satisfying events per month, Reuters reported. The pill needs to be taken every day and its most common side effects are dizziness, nausea and sleepiness. Advocates claim that the increase in sexually satisfying events is meaningful, while critics say the benefit is outweighed by the drug’s risks. Flibanserin will be sold under the brand name Addyi. As the drug could potentially cause dangerously low blood pressure and fainting when taken with alcohol it will be sold exclusively through certified health care professionals and pharmacies. ------------------------------------------------------------- Welcome to TomoNews, where we animate the most entertaining news on the internets. Tagalog/Eng/Nat Viagra, the headline grabbing anti-impotency pill, is now on sale in the Philippines. Pfizer, who manufacture the drug, have started delivering to local drugstores in Manila, two weeks after the local Bureau of Food and Drug gave its approval for its sale in the country. Pharmacies in the Philippines have finally begun to receive their stocks of Viagra. The manufacturer Pfizer, started deliveries of the new wonder drug at drugstores in Manila this week. Some stores already began selling the drug on Tuesday. With Viagra becoming the talk of the town, drugstore owners are anticipating a huge demand. Pharmacy owner Bhoyette Vizconde sold five tablets on the first day. SOUNDBITE: (English) "I already hoard (laughs) stocks because I'm really expecting that being the first to have Viagra here in our vicinity, I'm sure a lot of people will come here and inquire or buy Viagra." SUPER CAPTION: Bhoyette Vizconde, Owner of Marcelo's Pharmacy Pharmacy Plus received its first supply early this week. Owner James Sandoval, who owns several stores in the capital, put a few boxes of the pill on the shelf to show clients that the drug is now available. But before the drug was put on sale in his stores, Sandoval issued a memo to all his store managers to ensure that safety precautions are practiced before the drug is dispensed to patients. The B-F-A-D says it is important the pill is only sold to patients who come with a legitimate prescription from their doctors. Each pill comes with a leaflet giving warnings of possible side-effects if the drug is not taken properly. Pfizer warned that the drug should not be taken by people being treated with nitrate-based medication for heart problems. While he expects a huge demand for the drug, Sandoval said Filipino men may be a little shy of asking for the drug themselves. He says the men here will probably not want to admit they need Viagra and so he is arranging a home delivery service to put them out of their misery. SOUNDBITE: (English) "Because maybe at the secrecy of their own home, they can acquire the product because they might be too embarrassed to come forward to admit that they have a sexual problem. Any person that comes forward asking about the product - they're so defensive, they say right away "Hey listen I don't have a problem with this. I'm just inquiring". That goes to tell you how sensitive the issue is." SUPER CAPTION: James Sandoval, Owner of A-B Sandoval Drugstore Dr. Jesus Mendoza is a local doctor who has been checking out the testing of the Viagra drug. SOUNDBITE: (English) "Well, I was pretty excited and wanted to find out whether it was really going to work. Of course, there was some degree of skepticism at first. But when we started seeing back the patients who were on the study, then it was confirmed that my gosh, this works." SUPER CAPTION: Dr. Jesus Mendoza, Urologist In a press conference early this month, Pfizer said the approval from B-F-A-D came after they completed a six-month study of its effects on 500 men from six Asian countries, including the Philippines. The man who discovered Viagra, Dr. Peter Ellis, was in Manila last week and spoke of how his drug differs from the others already available in the market. SOUNDBITE: (English) "And I think the beauty of the drug is that it works to enhance the natural process. All the other products that are out there, you take the product, you get an erection. But Viagra, you take the product, you don't get an erection but it's only when sexually aroused. So it's basically enhancing a perfectly natural function and restoring it back to normal." Women testified about their fears of never being able to have sex again at a Food and Drug Administration (FDA) hearing in Washington on Thursday, in an effort to push the agency to approve a drug that is touted as “women’s viagra”. A coalition of women’s groups and the drug’s manufacturer are advocating for approval of the pill, Flibanserin. “I should be able to determine if Flibanserin is worth the benefit of treatment,” said Amanda Parrish, one of more than 11,000 women who participated in a clinical trial of the pill. http://www.theguardian.com/us-news/2015/jun/04/viagra-women-fda-hearing-flibanserin http://www.wochit.com This video was produced by Wochit using http://wochit.com

Inside the cake were 11 of Viagra tablets - which are prescribed for male impotency. The bakery in Taipei is charged with selling the tablets without authorisation. 002 Perhaps the ultimate celebration cake. 005 For the past two months, a bakery in Taipei is said to have sold cakes packed with Viagra tablets. 012 If the blue pills are found to be the real thing the baker could face three years in prison and a fine of over 3-thousand dollars. 022 The authorities in Taiwan only gave the go-ahead for the distribution of Viagra in March - and only then by doctor's prescription. 030 But there is a large black market, fed by people desperate for the tablets. Before they were legally available, a single tablet was reported to fetch as much as 65 dollars. 041 The pills are the subject of hot gossip in Taiwan. 045 No surprise then that bakers across the country have tried to cash in... producing cakes in the shape of Viagra pills. WASHINGTON, DC — The first prescription pill to treat low sexual desire in women was finally approved by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration on Tuesday. The little pink pill will be sold under the brand name Addyi and manufactured by Sprout Pharmaceuticals, a privately held company. It will only be available through certified and specially trained healthcare professionals and pharmacies due to its potentially dangerous side effects. Addyi, whose generic name is flibanserin, is designed to help women get their groove back. The pill is designed for premenopausal women who suffer from hypoactive sexual desire disorder (HSDD). The FDA rejected flibanserin twice in the past, but finally caved after a heavy lobbying campaign by Sprout and women's groups. Women who took Addyi in a clinical study had an increase of about one orgasm a month, so that means a whopping 12 extra orgasms a year. Only problem is you need to take Addyi every day. Addyi can cause low blood pressure, fainting, nausea, dizziness, sleepiness and shouldn't be taken with booze, but otherwise it's completely safe. ------------------------------------------------------------- Daily videos brought to you by THE Taiwanese Animators behind the infamous Tiger Woods animation. The Food and Drug Administration approved a so-called "female Viagra" pill Tuesday, saying it wanted to offer an option to women with sexual dysfunction, a decision that disappointed doctors and advocates who said the drug didn't work safely enough to justify approval. Dr. Janet Woodcock, director of the FDA's Center for Drug Evaluation and Research, said, "Today's approval provides women distressed by their low sexual desire with an approved treatment option." The drug works by changing how brain cells respond to various message carrying chemicals called neurotransmitters, with the aim of changing a woman's sexual desire over time. http://feeds.nbcnews.com/c/35002/f/663303/s/4918331a/sc/14/l/0L0Snbcnews0N0Chealth0Csexual0Ehealth0Cfda0Eapproves0Esays0Eno0Efemale0Eviagra0En411711/story01.htm http://www.wochit.com This video was produced by Wochit using http://wochit.com

The demand for erectile dysfunction drugs have spiked recently & so have the number of fake drugs. Dr. David Samadi explains what men should be aware of & how to spot fake medication. As a Urologist, Dr. David Samadi claims that he has seen this situation frequently as patients have difficulty getting drugs like Viagra, Cialis & Levitra. Patients resort to purchasing drugs online from overseas vendors without consulting their doctor first & unfortunately almost 80% of these purchases are counterfeits containing dangerous components such as rat poison. Dr. David Samadi stresses on the importance of looking for the VIPPS symbol displayed by online vendors as these are verified vendors with real medication. Sometimes medication purchased without a doctor’s consultation can lead to complications as patients may not need the medication in the first place. Erectile Dysfunction could be caused by diabetes & hypertension. Younger men experiencing ED should also be aware that it could be a sign of heart disease. _________________________________________________________________ Dr. David Samadi is the Chairman of Urology & Robotics Surgery at Lenox Hill Hospital. Hindi/English/Nat Viagra may have made a sensational debut on the Western market but a different kind of competition awaits the anti-impotence pill in India. Favourable patent laws have spurred a race among the Indian pharmaceutical companies to produce a Viagra clone. However, India's traditional doctors have snubbed the Viagra hype, claiming their ancient herbal sex potions are far more potent - and cheaper - than any modern day pill. The race for the Indian version of Viagra is on. Just months after the anti-impotency pill hit the Western world, dozens of Indian versions of the drug are waiting for approval by the Indian government. India is one of world's largest drug industries but it only recognises process patents. This has prompted "copycats" to try to develop a slightly different process to make a Viagra clone. Presently, about 10 Indian pharmaceutical companies are in the race to process Sildenafil Citrate - the active ingredient in the Viagra wonder pill. The competition is so fierce that some companies have already started exporting the ingredient - even though they are still waiting for permission to market the product locally. What's driving these companies is a potential market of one (b) billion people - and that means big dollars. SOUNDBITE ( English) "As far as Indian companies are concerned, I am talking of established companies, definitely they will come up with very high quality. And price advantage will be there, it is definite... it is almost certain." SUPER CAPTION: Dr. S Sarangan, Kopran Limited In the land of Kama Sutra, sexual inadequacies have long been treated by ancient medical wisdom. On the streets of the Indian capital, hundreds of pavement doctors line the streets peddling traditional cures for impotence. For these roadside doctors, a strong belief in the potency of their magic potions is more important than conducting clinical trials. They claim their remedies offer vigour and vitality - using the rejuvenating properties of well known Indian herbs. These traditional remedies feature heavily in Indian folklore about Mughal emperors and kings who relied on herbal aphrodisiacs to keep their numerous wives satisfied. What's more - they're incredibly cheap. For a country where the problem lies more in ignorance than impotence, traditional alternatives are generally favoured. Sex clinics which offer indigenous cures boast a roaring trade. Run by a family of sexologists who practise traditional medicine, Sablok clinic has been in the business for nearly 70 years. Dr. Sablok scoffs at the hype created by Viagra and says the Indian masses just can't afford the expensive blue pill. SOUNDBITE ( English) "Making that person feel the pleasure out of a pill which you have given him at that moment and which.....obviously its expensive - I mean every other fellow can't afford it. So next time if he doesn't have that much money or he can't spend that much of amount , where does he go ?" SUPER CAPTION : Dr. Vikram Sablok , Sexologist India's lucrative sex-tonic market has attracted dozens of companies aggressively marketing various brands of attractively packaged, indigenous sex-elixirs. Advocates say Viagra can do no damage to their profitable trade - simply because their medication is without any side effects. SOUNDBITE (English) "We have very potent herbs and remedies which can definitely match Viagra - no doubt about it. In fact I should say that hopefully we will be a step ahead of them." SUPER CAPTION: Dr. Vikram Sablok, Sexologist In India's commercial capital, Bombay, Viagra is likely to face competition of a different kind. The current big seller is known as the "bed-breaker" thanks to its aphrodisiac additives. Mandarin/Nat A Taipei bakery has added a new cake to its selection of baked goods and it's shaped like a huge Viagra pill. Viagra has a special appeal for many Taiwanese - the drug only became available in the country a few months ago. Many of the cakes are actually being bought by women, eager to serve them to boyfriends despite the fact they don't actually contain any of the drug. Viagra, first released in the U-S in March 1998, is legally available in more than 50 countries. The little blue pill, which assists in producing penile erections, is now also available in Taiwan, and has become increasingly popular since it was imported a few months ago. Taiwan papers have reported that during last year's Taiwan elections a candidate was seen giving away free Viagra pills in a bid to win favour with the public. Now, a Taiwan bakery is capitalising on Viagra's popularity and is using the drug as a way to sell cakes and increase profits. The bakery's owner says, the cake contains many beneficial herbs that are good for health. SOUNDBITE : (Mandarin) "Our cake is different from the VIAGRA pill in drug effect. SUPERCAPTION : Chang Pi-o, store owner Bakery owner Chang says the herbs include a mix of Chinese Aloe, Dandelion and Rosa laevigata which contains vitamins A, B, and C which are good for the liver and improve the immune system. Chang also said that the new cakes can attract more young female customers to the bakery. But the bakery named the cake "Viager" to avoid any charges that it was violating copy rights of the Viagra manufacturer. The bakery only sells eighteen of these big tablets per day. Customers have to book the cake a week in advance and it's difficult to get one any earlier. Most female buyers love to buy the cake as a gift for their boyfriends. They think that the pill-style cake has cool design with funny sexual appeal. SOUNDBITE: (Mandarin) " I want to buy the Viagra cake for my boyfriend as a birthdaycake. I hope this huge pill-style cake can make him happy." SUPERCAPTION : Vox pop, girl buyer. SOUNDBITE: (Mandarin) " I think the cake only looks cute, It's no big deal."
