That root cause is poor nitric oxide production. Now we'd like to introduce you to two that you don't normally see but can have a major impact on ED because they directly effect your ability to create nitric oxide. They are vitamins D3 and K2. Before we talk about why you need them let's first address the cause of most ED issues. It's the lack of nitric oxide production. On the screen is a picture of your vascular system as it ages. The first item to note is the drastic reduction in nitric oxide production as you age. By the time you reach the age of 60 your nitric oxide production could have decreased by as much as 85%. This reduction in the production of nitric oxide is due to damage to the interior lining of all of your cardiovascular system. This lining is called the endothelium and it regulates most of your cardiovascular health and blood flow. There are four major factors that damage this tissue leading to plaque formations and calcification. They are: high blood pressure high blood glucose or sugar levels cholesterol particularly LDL or Bad Cholesterol and Smoking Why is this important? Because it's estimated that 65% of all ED issues are caused by atherosclerosis, which is placque formations and arteriosclerosis, which is calcification of the vascular wall. Vitamins D3 and K2 directly address this damage. First, vitamin K2 has been shown to reverse arterial calcification helping to return more of the endothelium back into a healthy, functioning tissue. This results in improve nitric oxide production. Second, the production of nitric oxide by the endothelium is a calcium dependent reaction. The combination of vitamins D3 and K2 help to properly regulate calcium levels in your bloodstream to help optimize this nitric oxide product. Third, as you increase your nitric oxide production to high enough levels over a long enough period of time, this process initiates reparative mechanisms that heal additional damage done to the endothelium. This returns even more surface volume back into play resulting in even higher levels of nitric oxide production. This benefits both improved cardiovascular and sexual health. Not fat, but to gain muscular weight and some fat too is okay. They want to “bulk up” and fill out. So they feel more “manly” or stronger or more simply more confident. And trust me, I know a LOT about this topic - so I’m going to give you the REAL formula for gaining muscular weight - no matter what you’ve tried. Anyway, I’ve gained about 70 lbs of muscle, naturally. And it took a while, but now I can keep it year round with a lot less effort. So with that said, let’s get start with part 1 - which is your diet. And part 2 will be about your workouts. From Skinny to Brawny The “skinny” guy typically has a somatotype of an Ectomorph. Whatever they do, they can’t ever seem to gain weight. Some are “skinny FAT” and some are “skinny LEAN” -- but either way, they’re “skinny” and will feel and look better with some extra muscular weight. The “skinny” Ectomorph has a very fast metabolism. Thus, they are in a constant state of “catabolism” - this means “break down” of tissue (both muscle and fat). This is why they can’t gain weight. This in turn actually LOWERS their primary “anabolic” hormone, which is testosterone. So, they have a hard time “building” muscle. So let’s start with the most anabolic substance on the planet - FOOD! DIET You “skinny” guys are always telling me “I eat everything in sight” and for some of you, that’s true. However, doing so for 1 or 2 or even 3 meals does NOT count. You need to eat more, a LOT more. ALL day long. This mean 6, 7, 8 and sometimes 9 “meals” daily. You have to FORCE FEED yourself. I suggest 4 solid meals and 4 liquid meals. YES, that’s a total of 8 meals. And yes, you do this every day, every week, every month, year after year. Start low and build up. Every week, add in more calories or another meal. Here’s the breakdown: CARBS - 60% This is going to be the majority of your calories, at least 60% of your diet. I could say “eat whatever you want”, but let’s try to at least keep it healthy. Eat lots of rice, potatoes, pasta and healthy breads. Forget vegetables, they take up too much space in your stomach, too low in calories. It’s okay to drink your calories. Have fruit juice. But not soda or anything with high fructose corn syrup. That converts the food more towards fat than energy and muscle. Or lots of dried fruit because they’re very calorie dense. PROTEINS - 25% Because you’re having so many carb calories, you don’t need as much protein. Carbs spare protein. Besides, protein is hard to digest and you want fast digesting food, so you can keep eating all day long. Eat whatever protein you like. I’m not a fan of chicken, but it’s easy to digest, so go ahead. But have more thigh, instead of breast - it’s higher in fat and calories. Eat meat (beef, bison, etc), whole eggs and salmon. You can also eat lots of protein powder. Whey isolate is the best. Fast digesting, no sugar or lactose. FATS - 15% Fat is good because it's very dense and high in calories. The only problem is that it SLOWS digestion, so it makes it harder to eat 6-9 times daily. However, you should still get some from fattier meats, whole eggs, nuts, seeds and healthy oils such as Udo’s flaxseed, Macadamia, Olive and Coconut oil. You can just put the fat on your meals or if you want to cook with it, do so with the macadamia or coconut oil. SHAKES Shakes are great because they're fast to digest and easy to prepare. You’ll get tired of cooking, eating, chewing and digesting all of that food. So, have shakes often. Throw in some juice, fruit, oats, nuts, almond butter, whey isolate, oils and whatever else you want. Make it tasty and have 3-4 of these daily. Just EAT More So, there you have it. The basic idea with all of this is you need to eat more. You’ll need to force it. You should feel almost nauseated at times because you’re so full. Do NOT go by how you feel or by “hunger”. Plan it and eat every 2-3 hours, NO MATTER WHAT! Bring food with you wherever you go. ========================================­ Thank you for watching. This simple exercise will also help avoid the embarrasing “premature ejeculation”, allowing you to statisfy your parter, better and long than ever before. If you’ve been following my work and watching my videos, you would know that certain exercises can either increase or decrease your libido, erection strength, hardness and even size, because of hormonal changes. If you didn’t already know, testosterone is the primary hormone that increases your libido, sex drive and “muscle size”. Unfortunately, this hormone starts to decrease around the age of 25. However, certain exercises can increase your decrease your testosterone. For example, doing too much cardiovascular exercise - like running, jogging, etc. can decrease your testosterone because of the increase in your stress hormone, cortisol. The Non-Exercise, Exercise However, today I’m NOT going to discuss anything about lifting weights, cardio, etc. I’ve done that in the past. What I want to talk about is a very simple “non-exercise”, exercise... that you can do RIGHT NOW, while watching this video and that’s called, the Kegel Exercise. I call this the “non-exercise” exercise because it requires no gym, equipment or even real movement. Now, some of you may have heard of this. Unfortunately most do it incorrectly. Kegel exercises are done to strengthen the perineal muscles. To “flex” this muscle, it’s very simple. One way to describe how to do it is, by contracting your anus muscle, as if you’re trying to hold in gas. Go ahead and give it a try now... Another way to do it is stop peeing midway through. Thus, as you’re peeing, “contract the muscle” that will STOP the pee, midway through. That’s it - that’s a kegel exercise. Super simple, but extremely effective. You can literally do it anywhere, anytime and nobody would know. Sets & Reps You should do kegel’s about 3x a week to start with. Over time, slowly build up to 5x weekly. Just don’t do it every single day because like any muscle, it requires rest to gain strength. Contract the muscle (holding in gas or stop peeing) and hold for 3-5 seconds. Relax for 1-2 seconds. That’s ONE repetition Do this 10 of these, for 10 repetitions. That’s ONE set Do one set of 10 repetitions, 3x weekly. Then maybe the next week do 2 sets of 10 reps and work up to 3 sets of 10 reps, 3x weekly. You can do it all at once, or break it up 2-3x daily. Nothing it set in stone. What matters is consistency, persistence and patience. Benefits There lots of benefits when this muscle is strong Stronger, full erections Last longer, more stamina and the prevention of premature ejeculation. Stronger orgasms. Healthier prostate. I’m 48 and I’ve got all the symptoms of having low testosterone. I’ve been doing my research. My doctor says “don’t worry, this is normal”. I then read some other expert saying how I should increase it, so I can be healthier. And then I read the exact opposite from another “expert” saying that increasing it can cause health problems and even cancer. There are lots of them, but today I’m going to focus on testosterone levels - which affect BOTH men and women. So the problem is that as you age, your testosterone levels start decreasing. This starts around your mid 20’s. Not to mention, low testosterone levels causes many health problems and diseases -- such as heart disease high cholesterol and blood pressure Poor blood blood flow and circulation diabetes and high blood sugar mental decline and memory loss Depression, anxiety and yes, even CANCER! So again, the goal is to increase your testosterone levels, to their higher, youthful levels. Your Testosterone Boosting Options And to do this, you can either take prescription testosterone “exogenously”, from the outside… such as testosterone injections or creams containing the drug “testosterone”. Or you can do it naturally, “endogenously”, from within… By taking specific herbs, vitamins and minerals. And of course, improving your lifestyle as well. The REAL Problem! Now, the problem with increasing your testosterone is that as you age, your body starts to convert the testosterone to more “anti-testosterone” hormones that LOWER your testosterone. So, let’s say you try to increase your testosterone with a drug (exogenously) or supplements (endogenously). Your body initially and TEMPORARILY increases your testosterone. Which is great. But soon after, it all drops again back to lower levels because your body quickly does 3 things: [1] It lowers testosterone by converting it to more female hormones, such as estrogen. This causes fat again, depression and “man” boobs. [2] It also lowers testosterone by converting it to Dihydrotestosterone (DHT) - this accelerates balding, extra body hair and prostate problems. [3] Finally, there’s an increase in stress and adrenal hormones, such as cortisol. And each of these 3 “conversions”, further lowers the testosterone back to “low” levels again. So, not only are back to having “low” testosterone again like you originally did. But now you have an even BIGGER problem -- HIGH estrogen, DHT and stress hormones!!! THIS is now the reason you are at a higher risk for cancer and various diseases. So the solution is that you need to REDUCE the conversion to these 3 “negative” hormones. You don’t want to block them completely because they are needed and have important roles. You just want to “lower” them. The real problem is that 99% of doctor’s don’t do this and don’t know how to do this and the truth is, they don’t really even care because it’s very complicated. If taking testosterone injections, you’d have to take drugs that also inhibit estrogen, DHT and cortisol. Not only does this get very expensive, all of these drugs have their own problems and negative side-effects. You can also take supplements that do this - the benefit is, no negative side-effects. About 25%-30% of your diet should be from whole eggs, RAW coconut oil, macadamia oil, hemp oil, avocados, and raw nuts/seeds such as walnuts. Stay away from all vegetable oils. How are your erections? How is your energy levels? But, there is a physical test that can give you some insight as to how your testosterone levels are, and that’s with the finger test. Hold your right hand up in front of you as if you were trying to protect your face in a food fight. Now look at it…. Is your ring finger (the fourth finger, counting the thumb) considerably longer than the finger you point with (the second, “index” finger)? If your ring finger is longer, consider yourself lucky. It seems that finger size, or more specifically, finger ratio, correlates strongly with “higher” testosterone levels, as well as better success in a variety of sports.1 As you see in the picture above, the one of the left side - the ring finger is longer than the index, “pointer” finger. This means higher testosterone levels. Now you might think I’m making this up, but I’m not. Scientists have long noticed that men’s ring fingers are generally longer than their index fingers. With women, it tends to be the reverse: their index fingers are usually longer. They’ve called this difference in length between the index finger and ring finger the “2D:4D ratio.” 2D stands for “second digit” — that’s your index finger, and 4D means “fourth digit” — your ring finger. So if your index finger is 2.9 inches long and your ring finger is 3.1 inches long, you have a 2D:4D ratio of .935 (2.9/3.1 = .935). A longer ring finger compared to your index finger is considered a “low 2D:4D ratio.” Oddly enough, the ring finger seems to have a higher number of receptors for testosterone during early fetal development. Thus, the ring finger grows in proportion to the amount of testosterone produced. The more testosterone produced, the lower the eventual 2D:4D ratio. Interestingly, the 4th digit of the right hand is more sensitive to fetal testosterone than the ring finger of the left hand, so use your right hand to appraise your Testosterone levels. A longer ring finger is merely a biomarker of high levels of fetal testosterone, and this early surge of testosterone is instrumental in influencing the growth of not only the brain and heart, but also muscle and bone, all of which are vital to sports performance. However, I want to point out that even though this has been scientifically proven in 1980, 1998 and again in 2011.. This doesn’t necessarily indicate where your testosterone levels are right NOW. This very important topic obviously affects anyone who is trying build muscle,... whether you’re man or women. But it also affects older people, 50+ who want to preserve muscle size as they age, which is ironically, a major cause of aging and death - muscle loss! In fact, this is why they give AIDs patients lots of steroids and testosterone, to help bulk up in muscle, so when or IF they do get sick due to an infection or illness and quickly lose a ton of muscle, there is a “safety net”. Eat More Protein To Gain More Muscle!?!? The reason for the increase in protein consumption is because when you increase protein intake, there’s an increase in protein synthesis, leading to higher “nitrogen retention”, which will ultimately lead to MORE muscle and LESS body fat. At one point, at a body weight of 200 lbs, I was eating 600 GRAMS of protein! A lot of it was with protein supplements, powders and shakes, since I just couldn’t chew that much real food. End Result = NO Extra Muscle! How Much Protein Do You REALLY Need? Just keep in mind that the time you’re growing the most is when you’re a baby, right?... and mother’s milk is only 5% protein. It’s mainly carbs (sugars) and fat. In fact, I’d say the most you’d ever really need is about 1 gram per pound of body weight. Sometimes I eat much less and as you can see in my pictures, I have NOT lost any muscle size or gotten fatter. And I still weigh around 200 lbs and I actually have MORE muscle now, than I did when I was eating more protein and I’ll tell you how and why in a minute. IF you’re working out really hard 2-3 hours daily, taking LOTS of steroids and are in your 20’s when you CAN absorb more protein correctly, then you can do about 1.5 grams at the MAXIMUM and thus, if 200 lbs, you can eat about 300 grams of protein. Why You Should Eat NO Protein! Now, there are lots of problems with eating so much protein, but the one main topic I want to discuss today is that the more protein you eat, the faster is also oxidizes and thus, BREAKS DOWN faster. So, the “experts” will say “more protein increases protein synthesis” and yes it does, but for about 48-72 hours, before your body ADAPTS and it increases protein oxidation, which means it BREAKS DOWN faster and thus, protein synthesis DECREASES!!! Hence, the OPPOSITE happens! You start to LOSE muscle. So what’s the solution? “Protein Cycling/Fasting” You need to protein cycle by actually having one day a week with NO protein. You can call it “protein fasting” And trust me, you are NOT going to “lose” muscle. In fact, you’ll GAIN muscle… IF you do it correctly. So, how do you protein cycle, not eat any protein for 24 hours and actually INCREASE muscle and burn more fat and most importantly, improve your hormones? Here’s What You Should Do Sundays, I eat no protein. You can pick any ONE day out of the week, I just pick Sundays. Monday, my body is now super sensitive to protein since it’s gone without for 24 hours. So Monday and Tuesday, I have 150 grams of protein. Thus, your weight (200 lbs for me) x 0.75 = 150 grams. Then Wednesday and Thursday, I increase it by 25% to 200 grams. Finally, Friday and Saturday I again increase it by 25% since body has adapted again and this time I take in 250 grams. Typically you have low testosterone, high female and stress hormones. And that’s what I quickly want to discuss today - 3 clinically proven and simple changes you can make right away, that’ll naturally improve your blood flow and circulation and thus, not only improving your erections. 3 Clinically Proven Ways To Increase Blood Flow & Improve Your Erections =-=-=-=-=- 1 - DIET Diet obviously plays a big role in improving your blood flow and reducing plaque buildup. The good news is that it’s never too late to eat a healthier diet. Just as years of bad eating can damage your body, good eating can help heal it and it can happen quickly. Primary Cause Of Heart Attacks & Strokes Poor blood flow and circulation is one of the primary causes of a heart attack or stroke. Unfortunately, if you are sedentary for prolonged periods of time … like sitting for too long, on a long flight or bedridden… your “second heart” is inactive and blood can gather in your veins and around your ankles and this can lead to pain in the lower legs… and worst case scenario it can lead to a life-threatening blood clot. The good news is that by performing regular leg exercises, you can promote healthy blood flow from you legs to your heart and thus, help prevent blood clots and leg pain. Exercises Walking I think walking is one of the best exercises you can do and almost anyone can do it, any where, any time of the day and it doesn’t cost you anything. Ideally you would walk outside in fresh air if possible. First thing morning and/or late evening are good times but, whenever you can is a better than nothing. To start, all you need is about 15 minutes, 3x weekly. Ideally you would work up to daily walks of about 30 minutes. And if you have pain or trouble walking, even 3 minutes is a good start. Try your best to walk just a little bit every single day. Rebounder A rebounder is basically a mini trampoline. I like this because it is very low impact and super easy on your joints. It also helps clean your lymph nodes, which helps prevent many cancers and illnesses. I put mine in front of the TV while watching a favorite show and do it for about 10-20 minutes daily. You don’t need much at all. By the way, you’re not trying to jump high on it and try to touch the ceiling. You only need to go up a few inches. Just enough for your toes to be off the roubound. It’s just a light up and down motion. Again, almost anyone can do it, any time and anyplace. You can even travel with it. Body Weight Squats This last exercise is great for building and strengthening your entire lower body … From your ankles to your leg muscles and all the way to your lower back and stomach. You can simply use your own bodyweight and do sets of about 15-20 repetitions. Of course, if you’re first starting out, simply doing even 2-3 comfortable repetitions is a great start. Go down as far your comfortable and without pain. Over time, as you get stronger and more flexible, you can do more repetitions and go deeper. Ideally, you would do maybe 1 set of 15 or more repetition, 2-3x daily. Maybe in the morning, noon and night time. More often and throughout the day helps keep the blood flow regular and continuous. And if you don’t have good coordination, simply hold onto a wall or something sturdy as you squat down. Summary Poor blood flow is bad for your health, if affects your entire body. I’m lean, but I always look “soft” and “flat”. Nothing “pops” like it does with the fitness and bodybuilder guys you see in the magazines, movies and online” Harder, Fuller, Vascular Muscles However, there are some “secrets” or proven tactics to getting harder, fuller, vascular/veiny looking muscles and I’ll reveal them today. Tip #1 - Leaner Is Better What’s important to note is that I’m 6’3”, but only weight 200 lbs. So I give the ILLUSION of “looking” bigger because I’m lean and under 10% body fat. So, that’s the first secret - you have to get lean. When you’re lean, you’ll have more muscle separation, you’ll have more veins and thus, your muscles will “pop” more because they’re not hiding under a layer of fat. Tip #2 - Hydrate Normally I’m fuller than these pictures and more vascular as the day progresses because I’ve had a lot more water, electrolytes, carbohydrates, food and minerals. These pictures were taken first thing in the morning, on an empty stomach with very little water, so I was “flat”, rather than being “full”. This is one problem with people who are always on a low-carb diet (ketogenic, paleo, intermittent fasting, etc.) . They look flat and depleted, even when they are lean. Carbs help fill out your muscles because they hold 3x their weight in water. When your muscles are hydrated, you’ll look fuller, bigger and harder.. And your blood volume will also be higher and thus, you’ll be more vascular too. HOWEVER, I put Himalayan or Celtic salt in my water and on my food. This keeps me hydrated and that’s the secret. My workouts are a lot better too. I’m stronger and I get better pumps. However, REAL salt does the opposite - it retains the water in your muscles, not under the skin. Tip #3 - Improve Insulin Sensitivity The problem with having carbs is NOT higher blood sugar, but poor insulin sensitivity. In fact, the more muscle you have and the lower your body fat, the better your insulin sensitivity, the MORE carbs you can eat, the easier it is to gain muscle and lose fat. More salt and water will also help improve insulin sensitivity, so keep doing that. Better sleep, has lots of benefits, including better insulin sensitivity as well. Tip #4 - Specific Workouts How you exercise, what you do, how often all can make a huge difference in how you look. First, you need to lift heavier weights to create a more dense, harder looking muscle. Do sets at 6-8 reps to hit your fast-twitch muscles, as well as higher 10-15 reps. Both are needed. Secondly, exercising too much, too often, too long causes stress hormones such as cortisol and aldosterone to go up, while also DECREASING insulin sensitivity and testosterone levels. The end result not only will you start to lose muscle and also gain fat, but your muscles will be depleted, flat and “stringy” looking. This gives that “skinny/fat” look, rather than “lean/hard” look. So I suggest lifting weights for about 45 min, no more than an hour, 3-4x weekly or every-other-day. Tip #5 - Improve Your Hormones Because my background as a doctor is in endocrinology - the study of hormones, this is an area I’m most passionate about. This is why steroids work so well, not only in building muscle and losing fat, but making you look harder, fuller and more vascular. However, simply optimizing your own hormones naturally, will go a long way in making improvements in how you look, feel and perform. This is how I do it because it’s so much safer, healthier, easier to maintain and you won’t have any of the negative side-effects (hair loss, zits, man-boobs, high cholesterol, blood pressure, etc.) This means higher “positive” hormones - such as Testosterone, GH, IGF, DHEA, etc., while minimizing “negative” hormones such as estrogen, prolactin, cortisol, DHT, etc. #muscle #weightlifting #vascularity ======================================== ========================================­ Thank you for watching. You’d be happier at the end of the each day because you had a FULL day! In fact, one of the biggest complaints people have when it comes to their health is, “lack of energy”. And this is why the most used and ABUSED drug on the planet is caffeine! This is why beverages such as coffee, tea and “energy” drinks are the biggest money-makers -- everyone is drinking them to start AND get through their days. In fact, people don’t even see caffeine as a drug. They think it’s just a “supplement”. So “energy drinks” and “energy supplements” are just another delivery mechanism for caffeine. In the old days, people would just take straight caffeine pills such as No-Doz or Vivarin. It’s cheap and effective and yes, this is what I would do when I was younger to get through my long days at work and medical school. I mean, it was like 6-7 days a week of 12-14 hour days. It was horrible. But I didn’t know how else to get through the day. When you’re young, your body can take the abuse. Unfortunately, over time I noticed I got fatter, my sleep was horrible, I was irritable all the time, my sex drive was lower, I was losing muscle and worse of all, I was still TIRED all the time after the INITIAL energy “high” from the caffeine. In fact, after a while I needed the caffeine just say “normal”. I wasn’t even getting energized anymore. And THIS is the problem with caffeine! -- Your body quickly adapts after a few days or weeks. Your adrenal glands get burned out and you have “adrenal fatigue”. Your stress hormones such as Cortisol goes sky-high, which causes negative imbalances with all of your “youth” hormones. Thus, your testosterone drops… your thyroid and metabolism slows down… your insulin levels go up… you have high blood pressure… your dopamine levels (your happy neurotransmitter) and receptors don’t work very well and the end result is accelerated aging! Both physically AND mentally. And, this is what happened to me! So, I had to find a safe and long-term solution. The first thing I did was slowly get off anything with caffeine. I did NOT do this “cold-turkey” or abruptly because caffeine is a drug. Your body is addicted to it, no differently than cocaine. In fact, cocaine was the original ingredient in Coca-Cola When cogaine became illegal, they needed to find a “legal” alternative and that’s when Coca-Cola switched over to caffeine! Anyway, as I was getting off the caffeine, I started using natural herbs to help FIX my bodies caffeine-induced problems. How Testosterone Declines in Men (Physiologically, HPTA Axis, etc) HPTA = Hypothalamic Pituitary Gonadal Axis This axis produces circulating steroids important for male sexual function, fertility and development. Prostate and penis are steroid sensitive organs impacted by the regulation of the HPTA. This reproductive axis consists of three parts: 1. Hypothalamus -Produces GnRH (gonadotropin-releasing hormone) 2. Pituitary Gland -GnRH is sent to the pituitary gland where it stimulates the synthesis and release of gonadotropic hormones LH and FSH. 3. Testis -Gonads carry LH to the testis where they stimulate testosterone production through the testicular Leydig cells -Testosterone is produced by conversion of cholesterol -FSH is crucial for spermatogenesis Dihydrotestosterone (DHT) is the activated form of testosterone. 2% of testosterone is free or unbound, with the remainder being bound to SHBG (sex hormone-binding globulin), albumin- and cortisol-binding globulin. Bioavailable testosterone is the testosterone that is not bound to SHBG. Testosterone and DHT act on organs. -Causes development of secondary sexual characteristics -Inhibit secretion of LH and FSH by the pituitary gland, thus stops further testosterone production = negative feedback loop. -There exist androgen receptors in the pituitary and the hypothalamic neurons that bind to testosterone and signal to stop GnRH release Homeostasis is maintained through this loop - once testosterone stops being produced, this inhibited secretion stops and GnRH again causes LH and FSH release to produce further testosterone. As men age, they undergo hormonal level changes: -Testosterone decrease -LH and FSH increase -Other hormones that decrease: T3, insulin, growth hormone/insulin-like growth factor 1, thyroid stimulating hormone -Also an increase in SHBG -Dihydrotestosterone levels are unchanged -Estrogen levels unchanged As men age, the decrease in testosterone paired with the increase in SHBG leads to a decline in free, or bioavailable, testosterone. These hormonal changes start in the 30s and are well established by the 50s. Levels of testosterone vary greatly between men and not all men will be classified as hypogonadal as they age. What causes these hormone changes? 1. Testicular failure due to a decline in Leydig cell mass 2. Hypothalamic-pituitary system, or secondary hypogonadism failure -Believed not to be due to primary hypogonadism (disease of the testes) due to small increase in LH and decrease in responsiveness of LH and FSH to GnRH 3. Change in androgen receptor site sensitivity One can distinguish between those with pituitary disorders or hypothalamic disease by administering GnRH. Those with pituitary disorders will not respond by producing more LH and FSH whereas those with hypothalamic disorders will respond with increased LH and FSH. Numerous studies have shown a positive impact of healthy, dietary fat intake on testosterone levels in men. Cholesterol is tied to the production of sex hormones. Testosterone is created in the Leydig cells when LH triggers the cells to convert cholesterol into testosterone. Cholesterol is the precursor to pregnenolone, which is the precursor of steroid hormones. Pregnenolone is the precursor of progesterone, which is then converted into testosterone (progesterone is also converted into cortisol and aldosterone.)
