Actually, my dad has the varicose veins in the family. In today’s video, I’ll quickly discuss 3 best exercises for increasing blood flow and improving circulation to your legs and your entire body. You can do them anywhere and anytime, regardless of your age or fitness level. And it will not cost you anything! Primary Cause Of Heart Attacks & Strokes Poor blood flow and circulation is one of the primary causes of a heart attack or stroke. This is because it can lead to: -Hypertension and high blood pressure -Hardening and narrowing of your arteries -Higher cholesterol and plaque build up Warning Signs Some of what “warning signs” that you may have circulation problems include Frequent pain and cramping in your legs Tingling or numbness in your feet Tired, aching or weak legs and feet Slow-healing wounds Thickened toenails Varicose and “spider” veins Why Circulation Is So Important Now, improving circulation to your legs is very important because you have to pump the blood uphill to your heart… going against gravity! When you walk, your foot and leg muscles are contracting and relaxing and basically acting like a “second heart”, to continually pump blood back up through your legs and to your heart. Unfortunately, if you are sedentary for prolonged periods of time … like sitting for too long, on a long flight or bedridden… your “second heart” is inactive and blood can gather in your veins and around your ankles and this can lead to pain in the lower legs… and worst case scenario it can lead to a life-threatening blood clot. The good news is that by performing regular leg exercises, you can promote healthy blood flow from you legs to your heart and thus, help prevent blood clots and leg pain. Exercises Walking I think walking is one of the best exercises you can do and almost anyone can do it, any where, any time of the day and it doesn’t cost you anything. Ideally you would walk outside in fresh air if possible. First thing morning and/or late evening are good times but, whenever you can is a better than nothing. To start, all you need is about 15 minutes, 3x weekly. Ideally you would work up to daily walks of about 30 minutes. And if you have pain or trouble walking, even 3 minutes is a good start. Try your best to walk just a little bit every single day. Rebounder A rebounder is basically a mini trampoline. I like this because it is very low impact and super easy on your joints. It also helps clean your lymph nodes, which helps prevent many cancers and illnesses. I put mine in front of the TV while watching a favorite show and do it for about 10-20 minutes daily. You don’t need much at all. By the way, you’re not trying to jump high on it and try to touch the ceiling. You only need to go up a few inches. Just enough for your toes to be off the roubound. It’s just a light up and down motion. Again, almost anyone can do it, any time and anyplace. You can even travel with it. Body Weight Squats This last exercise is great for building and strengthening your entire lower body … From your ankles to your leg muscles and all the way to your lower back and stomach. You can simply use your own bodyweight and do sets of about 15-20 repetitions. Of course, if you’re first starting out, simply doing even 2-3 comfortable repetitions is a great start. Go down as far your comfortable and without pain. Over time, as you get stronger and more flexible, you can do more repetitions and go deeper. Ideally, you would do maybe 1 set of 15 or more repetition, 2-3x daily. Maybe in the morning, noon and night time. More often and throughout the day helps keep the blood flow regular and continuous. And if you don’t have good coordination, simply hold onto a wall or something sturdy as you squat down. Summary Poor blood flow is bad for your health, if affects your entire body. Typically it was the bike, jogging, stairmaster, etc. It was a hard workout and I would always leave the gym feeling exhausted. However, I felt like I had a good, “honest” workout because I gave it my all and pushed as much as I can. I did this for years… The end result - sadly, I looked the same all the time!... I always seemed like I had a cold and I’d get sick often. I never had any energy to do much else -- I was just tired from my workouts. The end result is I looked “skinny-fat”. You know, not muscular or “lean”. It just didn’t look good. I was “puffy” and “squishy” all the time. And sadly, my sex drive was kinda “blah”. Granted, because I was YOUNG, it was still “okay”. However, compared to my friends - it was much lower. Then one day I decided to do a hormone test because I was just curious. Well, guess what -- my testosterone levels were low. Worst of all, my “negative” hormones were “high”... Thus, my hormones were not good, not optimal -- definitely not for a 23 year old man. ...When things should have been much better and I should have had super high testosterone levels. I realized then that without the right hormones - it doesn’t matter what you do, how much you exercise or what you eat -- you’re screwed! This is why steroids are so powerful. They give you “optimal” levels. However, you can make your own“natural steroids” from within, and not have any of the negative side-effects … IF you know what to do and more importantly, what NOT to do. So what does all of this have to do with the original topic of “exercise and increasing or decreasing your testosterone levels”?... Here’s the basic “short cuts” on the “do’s” and “don’ts” DO Lift weights! Keep your workouts short, 45 minutes or less. Workout no more than 4x weekly. Do one workout with heavier weights and lower reps - about 8-10 repetitions. And the next workout higher, about 12-15 reps. One week out of every month, reduce your sets and have easier workouts. DON’TS Eliminate or limit stressful cardio. This means no running, jogging, biking, etc. These all decrease your testosterone and increase stress hormones. Don’t kill yourself every workout, go to failure, pushing hard, etc. When you are “natural” and have “regular” genetics, you can’t push so much, so often… When I ask most people “what’s the opposite of testosterone”, people typically reply back with “estrogen”, the female hormone. However, this is not true. Actually, the opposite of testosterone is the stress hormone, cortisol. Cortisol does the opposite of testosterone. It decreases muscle and strength, increases belly fat, makes you tired and kills your sex drive. It was horrible. But I didn’t know how else to get through the day. When you’re young, your body can take the abuse. Unfortunately, over time I noticed I got fatter, my sleep was horrible, I was irritable all the time, my sex drive was lower, I was losing muscle and worse of all, I was still TIRED all the time after the INITIAL energy “high” from the caffeine. In fact, after a while I needed the caffeine just say “normal”. I wasn’t even getting energized anymore. And THIS is the problem with caffeine! -- Your body quickly adapts after a few days or weeks. Your adrenal glands get burned out and you have “adrenal fatigue”. Your stress hormones such as Cortisol goes sky-high, which causes negative imbalances with all of your “youth” hormones. Thus, your testosterone drops… your thyroid and metabolism slows down… your insulin levels go up… you have high blood pressure… your dopamine levels (your happy neurotransmitter) and receptors don’t work very well and the end result is accelerated aging! Both physically AND mentally. And, this is what happened to me! So, I had to find a safe and long-term solution. The first thing I did was slowly get off anything with caffeine. I did NOT do this “cold-turkey” or abruptly because caffeine is a drug. Your body is addicted to it, no differently than cocaine. In fact, cocaine was the original ingredient in Coca-Cola When cogaine became illegal, they needed to find a “legal” alternative and that’s when Coca-Cola switched over to caffeine! Anyway, as I was getting off the caffeine, I started using natural herbs to help FIX my bodies caffeine-induced problems. Prostate and penis are steroid sensitive organs impacted by the regulation of the HPTA. This reproductive axis consists of three parts: 1. Hypothalamus -Produces GnRH (gonadotropin-releasing hormone) 2. Pituitary Gland -GnRH is sent to the pituitary gland where it stimulates the synthesis and release of gonadotropic hormones LH and FSH. 3. Testis -Gonads carry LH to the testis where they stimulate testosterone production through the testicular Leydig cells -Testosterone is produced by conversion of cholesterol -FSH is crucial for spermatogenesis Dihydrotestosterone (DHT) is the activated form of testosterone. 2% of testosterone is free or unbound, with the remainder being bound to SHBG (sex hormone-binding globulin), albumin- and cortisol-binding globulin. Bioavailable testosterone is the testosterone that is not bound to SHBG. Your CARBS should come from vegetables, white rice, yams, quinoa and fruits. These are the best absorbed, least insulinogenic and non-inflammatory and Lectin free sources. Your FATS should come from extra virgin coconut and olive oil, macadamia, hemp and flaxseed oil. 2 - EXERCISE Exercise is extremely important. Unfortunately, most people do too much or the wrong forms, which causes an increase in your stress hormones and lowers testosterone. You need to lift weights - do so 3-4x weekly or every-other-day. Keep your workouts to less than an hour, including the warm up. 3 - STRESS MANAGEMENT Most people leave out this part of the equation. WATER First we start with 16 oz of clean, purified water. You can make a liter or even a gallon of this stuff and drink it all day long, which a lot of my clients do. I prefer room temperature. But if the weather is cold, you can use warm water and if the weather is hot, you can use cold water. GLUTAMINE If we’re using 16 oz for today’s demonstration, then add in about ¼ to ½ of a teaspoon of L-glutamine into the water. L-Glutamine is a tasteless and odorless amino acid, which has a ton of health benefits. When your body is under stress, it quickly uses up this amino acid. So it’s very important to make sure you’re body has optimal levels of it because you’re body uses it in large amounts. So in addition to fighting stress, L-glutamine also Boosts your immune system. Burns fat and builds muscle. Fights cancer.8 Improves diabetes and blood sugar levels. Promotes better digestion, especially for those with “leaky gut”, diarrhea, IBS, ulcers, etc... So as you can see, there are a TON of wonderful benefits with using L-glutamine and it’s by far my favorite amino acid. LEMON JUICE Next, we’re going to add in some lemon juice. I like about 2 tablespoons, but it’s up to you how much you’d like to add, based on your taste buds. Now, even though lemons are acidic (citrus fruit), they actually help alkalize your body. Inside your body, when lemon juice has been fully metabolized and its minerals are dissociated in your bloodstream, its effect is alkalizing and therefore raises the pH of your body tissue (pH above 7 is alkaline). Most diseases and illness are caused by inflammation and being acidic. The #1 cause of acidity is NOT your diet, but your mind and your stress levels. So adding lemon juice to the water is great and has many health benefits. Now, I don’t have the time or desire to get fresh lemons, cut, squeeze and clean it all up every day. So I buy organic lemon juice in a bottle. Yes, fresh is best. But if it’s going to be a hassle and you’re not going to do it long-term, then it’s best to pick something that’s easy and convenient, right? Now, that’s it... This is the entire drink -- water, glutamine and lemon juice. However, there are additional “hacks” and additions I like to make. STEVIA I like my drink sweetened just a little, so it tastes like lemonade. So I put in just a little bit of natural, organic Stevia extract into my drink. I’ve noticed it also helps further reduce my sugar cravings and I can have more of my “anti-aging, weight loss” drink because it’s too tart for me without Stevia. GREENS Lastly, you can also add in some green powders into this drink. It’s totally optional and obviously, they can only improve the health benefits. I typically add in about 1 teaspoon of Yaeyama Chlorella, Spirulina and Organic Wheat Grass. However, I only add in these 3 green ingredients first thing in the morning and/or before I exercise. The rest of the time, I only do glutamine, lemon and stevia. There are times when I’m super hungry and I have this drink, within minutes my hunger is gone and STAYS gone for at least an hour or two!
